Pison: I’ve heard a great deal about your coaching of MLB baseball teams and PGA golfers, two sports where mental performance is crucial to overall success. What motivated you to start The Performance Mindset podcast and what does the podcast cover?
Zach: Being at the top of your mental game is so critical to success and not just for athletes but all sorts of people whether they are a stock broker, CEO, firefighter, or surgeon. But people need tools to make sure they are performing at their mental peak. That’s why we created The Performance Mindset™. In the podcast we’ll cover all things performance. We plan to take the listener on a journey to master their mindset and increase their performance. We hope to take them from where they are to where they want to be. We will dive into topics that will explore human performance in areas such as cognitive awareness, sleep efficiency, anxiety, routines and habits of excellence, nutrition, and many more.
Our listeners will develop a process that leads to daily personal trust based on understanding of general and specific principles of human performance. We will interview specialists in all areas of performance and simplify their knowledge to develop processes with simple, applicable strategies.
Pison: Who will benefit from all of the topics you will cover and the insights you plan to share?
Zach: The daily messages that we will put out through our podcast are intended for anyone who is interested in personal growth and development in any space in their life. Whether it be business development, sports performance, or personal growth, the performance mindset will help you develop a process for human performance. If I had to segment the audiences, I’d say athletes, coaches, trainers, business leaders, and consumers interested in health and wellness.
Our simple four-minute messages are direct, to the point, simple, and applicable for individuals of all ages. These messages have been impactful on individuals just starting their playing careers, veterans looking for a return to form, trainers seeking new messages to reach their clients, and meaningful to retired individuals with neurological disorders. These messages aren’t our messages, they are your messages. It is what you do with these messages that matter.
Pison: What will listeners walk away with after tuning in?
Zach: Our goal is to provide you with strategies and encouragement to take action. We will give you information on how to improve in certain areas of your performance, but our hope is that you take action. our favorite question is: “What are we going to do about it?” It is in the action where we will see progress. Our job is to provide strategies. Your job is to test the strategies and see what works for you. We will help you build a process that will lead to your success. Your focus will be on daily execution of your process. When you execute on your process, your trust in yourself will be high. When you have trust in yourself, you will do great things. Let’s try that together!
Pison: How does your work with professional and amateur elite athletes tie into the podcast?
Zach: Success leaves clues. Elite athletes have tried and tested strategies that have either worked or failed and their own life experiences. Their experiences will speed up the process in our own learning environment. We will learn from their knowledge and experience and adapt for excellence. From my work with professional and amateur athletes, one thing I know is that these individuals love to help others in their journey to success. These elite athletes are eager to share what has helped get them to the top. We will rely and share this information. As a community looking to get better, we will use this information to develop a process of growth and trust that – with hard work – will eventually lead to success.
Pison: Why is Pison the best sponsor for this podcast?
Zach: We are excited to team up with Pison for this podcast. Just like Pison, we are looking to “Unlock your mind and unleash your potential.” The technology that Pison is bringing to cognitive performance is going to transform performance and education across many fields of sport, business and medicine. Our hope is that this podcast can transform your mood, your morning, and your day as well. We hope that you look forward to listening to our message on a daily basis as much as you look forward to engaging with the technology and information that Pison provides.
Pison: Who would be your dream athlete and a dream business leader to interview on the pod?
Zach: I would be very interested in interviewing Tom Brady on this podcast. I have always said that playing at the elite level is not always about talent. In fact, it is not a talent game. Why? Because everybody has it. In order to have success at the elite level, you have to master everything that surrounds talent. In my opinion, that is what Tom Brady did. I would love to discuss these topics with him.
I would love to interview Cal Ripken Jr. when it comes to a business leader. Ripken took one day off after he retired from Major League Baseball to enjoy retirement. He then put on a suit and went to work as a businessperson. He has become very successful in the business world. I’d like to interview him to compare and contrast the differences and similarities between what it takes to become successful in the business world with that of being a professional athlete. I feel as though the qualities and characteristics that make you successful in one space are the same in all spaces.
Pison: What are your future plans for the podcast – we understand you may introduce a longer-form monthly or weekend show?
Zach: Currently we do a daily four to five-minute message Monday through Friday. Our messages are based on a weekly topic chosen by a member of our leadership group. In the future, we plan to have a longer form message on some Saturdays that are based on guest interviews that are experts in the field of human performance. We hope to do podcasts on Sundays that are meditation messages.
As a reminder, this is not our podcast. This is your podcast. If members of our community have interests or topics that they want us to discuss, please reach out and pass on the information. We would love to find an expert in the area or topic and provide content, information, and strategies on how to master these topics and better our human performance in these areas.
