Pison Neural Sensing Powers Gesture Control in the Xiaomi Watch 5

BOSTON Pison’s neural sensing technology is now built into the Xiaomi Watch 5, powering gesture control on one of the world’s best-selling smartwatches. The watch launched worldwide following MWC 2026, in partnership with STMicroelectronics. For the first time, Pison’s sensors are inside a flagship wearable used by millions of people every day.

Every Xiaomi Watch 5 includes three neural sensing chips licensed by Pison. They read the electrical signals your brain sends to the muscles in your hand, the same neural sensing Pison has developed for performance, wellness, and human-computer interaction. On the watch, that shows up as precise, hands-free gesture control with a simple lift of the wrist.

From nerve signals to everyday gestures

The Xiaomi Watch 5 combines Pison’s neural sensing with EMG, PPG, and IMU sensors to recognize gestures accurately. EMG sensors pick up nerve signals from each finger, so the watch can tell specific movements apart and turn them into actions without touching the screen.

That lets you control your watch, phone, and connected devices through natural hand movements, whether you are cooking, working out, or just need both hands free.

What you can do with a lift of your hand

The Xiaomi Watch 5 includes built-in gesture controls powered by Pison’s sensing technology:

  • Incoming calls: pinch twice to hang up
  • Alarms: pinch twice to snooze, or rub twice to turn off
  • Remote photo-taking: pinch twice to capture a photo from your phone
  • Timers: pinch twice to start or stop
  • Custom shortcuts: snap fingers, shake your wrist twice, or rotate your wrist twice to launch apps, start workouts, or open wallet features

Gesture control also works beyond the watch. Through Xiaomi Smart Hub and HyperConnect, you can control TVs, take photos and videos, and manage smart devices from your wrist.

A new category on the global stage

For Pison, the Xiaomi Watch 5 is more than a product integration. Neural sensing is no longer a lab demo. It is shipping in hardware people wear every day.

“We are not just launching a feature. We are building an entirely new category,” said David Cipoletta, Chief Executive Officer at Pison. “Neural sensing will change how people interact with technology and how neurological health is tracked through wearables.”

Dexter Ang, Executive Chairman at Pison, said Xiaomi, the third-largest global phone company, is one of the first major brands to bring gesture control to market at scale. More brands are expected to follow with similar gesture and wellness features later this year.
